We host images for our blog post on Flickr or Blogger. Is it possible to transfer all the images to WordPress?
It is not required to transfer images from Blogger or Flickr to WordPress (that is your new domain server). Your blogs or posts on WordPress will continue to link to current image locations on Flickr or Blogger seamlessly without any impact on user experience. As it is we are not shutting down the old Blogger account.
We are working on a free future plug-in that will help transfer all the images from original source location (be it Flickr or Blogger) to new domain server where WordPress is hosted.
Will you migrate old Blogger posts one by one or automatically?
All the posts will be migrated automatically.
How will the new posts look at the new site?
It will depend on the theme that will you would prefer to use for WordPress.
Some bloggers like to continue with the same theme of the old blog while others like to improve the usability of the blog and provide users a fresh theme.
In case, you prefer to continue with the current Blogger’s theme, our designers can help create an exact replica of the old blog that would ensure no change in the user experience. However, if you would like to have a new custom theme, our designers can create one for you that will have better overall usability.
What will be the URLs of the migrated posts? Will they follow the same structure of the old posts?
It is recommended the posts shall follow the same URL. Our solution is designed in such a way that all the posts will continue to maintain same URL structure to ensure there are no broken links or loss of the existing link juice.
If there is any business need to change the URL structure, we can manage this. However, you may face loss of some link juice.
Will the migrated posts keep the same time and date as the originals?
Yes. Dates, authors & content – everything will remain as original. We ensure that there is no impact on the user experience.
Can you migrate the comments from the old posts?
Yes, all the comments will be migrated, maintaining the same order, along with their respective post. Also order of comments will remain intact.
After the migration, what do we do with the Blogger account (Blogspot site)?
We need to keep the Blogger account (Blogspot site) alive and it should not be killed or deleted. This is required to support storage of images in the old posts at original locations so that they are rendered properly in their posts at new location.
We are working on a free future plug-in that will help transfer all the images from original source location (be it Flickr or Blogger) to new domain server where WordPress is hosted. This plug-in will even remove the dependency on the Blogger account for old images.
What will happen to the links to our old posts on other websites? Will people be automatically redirected to the same content on the new site?
That is one feature of our solution that we really like to boast about.
All the ping backs or back links from other sites to any page or post on your blog will be served seamlessly to the exact requested content on the new location.
You need not to ask anyone to update back links. The solution even covers bookmarks and tinyurls.
What will be the impact of the migration in sites like Technorati?
There will be no impact. It will remain as it is. In fact, after moving to WordPress you may get better results by using advance WordPress SEO plug-ins available for free.
What will happen to our stats with Sitemeter and Google Analytics?
Again, there will no impact on both. They will remain as it is.
We see you are offering this as a paid service, but we are thinking of the possibility of doing it by ourselves. Is this something we can do on WordPress by ourselves?
If you are comfortable with technology (HTML, CSS, PHP and JavaScript) and can manage the complete migration on your own, read our following guides (in order):
- Moving from Blogger to WordPress maintaining permalinks, traffic & SEO
- Blogger To WordPress Traffic & Permalinks Redirection Plugin
Alternatively, you may hire our professionals to execute the complete migration for you at a very nominal charge. To get a quotation, please fill in the “Get Quotation†form on our service offering page to request for customized migration services.
Once the project starts, at what stage will you need the layout?
We need the layout at the very beginning of the start of the migration.
What kind of details/instructions will you need from us?
First, you need to invite us to your Blogger blog using our Gmail ID that we will provide. Then you need to give us admin access to your blog. This way we can work without sharing your Google account username and password.
Apart from this, FTP access to your webhosting account is needed. In case you can create a database and send us database name, database user, database password and database host you need not give us Cpanel access of your webhosting account.
What is your testing process once the project is completed?
Once migration is done, we use Google search, Google blog search, Technorati search and other services to check if clicking on your blogs’ links from them show the right page from WordPress site.
We even use few shell scripts and WordPress plug-ins to test if all links have been migrated properly.
Do you offer bug support and maintenance of the new site?
You will get one year free bug support. Usually if there is a bug, it will be found during the testing phase. One year is much more than enough to make sure that everything is working well. Apart from this, you can Contact Us to get free support on anything related to WordPress.
